Room Layouts That Convey Success

Care and attention when planning the layout for an event is often overlooked, although it is a key factor for overall success. You may have spent hours agonising over colour themes, entertainment options and caterers, but if you’ve failed to consider room layouts properly, this could result in audio / visual issues or your guests’ vision being impaired by room architecture or equipment. Events by Knight are event planning specialists. Whether you’re staging a presentation, a corporate awards night or any form of celebratory event, we understand the importance of taking care of all the fine details. It’s crucial. Here, we unlock the secrets of appropriate room layouts and bring you 15 room layouts that convey success.

1. Cabaret Style

Suitable for lectures and informal fun type gatherings, a cabaret style layout involves guests sitting in a semi-circular fashion around circular tables whilst leaving a clear line of sight. Your guests will easily be able to follow what’s happening, but bear in mind that you may not be able to fit as many guests into the room as you’d like, as tables will be up to 50 per cent empty.

2. Classroom Style

Suitable for lectures, training sessions and presentations, individual seating with tables gives guests space to position laptops or books. Although it may seem a little restrictive, this layout gives a professional feel and enables guests to focus.

3. Theatre Style

Suitable for presentations and fashion shows, theatre style layout involves rows with a space in front so that guests have a clear view. Ideal if you have a large number of guests, but not suited to interactive events.

4. Cocktail Reception Style

Scattering a few high tables around your space with random chairs and stools encourages social interaction and events where you’d like guests to mingle.

5. Banquet Style

With seating arranged around tables, banquet style layouts are dinner based events (wedding receptions) or where guests don’t need to focus on a central point of the room.

6. Boardroom Style

Guests sit around tables which form a rectangle or square, enabling them to discuss and interact. This is really only suitable for smaller numbers where guests may need to brainstorm, discuss and engage.

7. Hollow Square Style

A variation of the Boardroom style, the hollow square forms a demonstration or presentation area in the middle. Suitable for corporate events, it enables guests to interact and participate whilst not being restricted for space.

8. U- Shape Style

As the name suggests, seating is arranged in a ‘U’ style either with our without tables. This enables a leader or speaker to address guests and therefore more suitable for small conferences, workshops and training sessions.

9. Semi- Circle

Seating arranged in a semi-circle, perhaps with chairs staggered, enables all guests to view events and for a speaker or leader to have control.

10. Cluster Style

Less formal than banquet style, tables and chairs randomly spaced to enable guests to circulate and interact easily.

11. Horseshoe Style

Similar to a ‘U’ shape layout but without a table, this enables leaders and speakers to interact easily and conversations and discussions to flow freely. Suitable for workshops, training sessions etc.

12. Imperial Style

Suitable for larger events serving food, or events requiring table space, seating is placed either side of long rectangular tables. Saves more space than using round tables and encourages conversation.

13. Runway Style

Long tables presented lengthwise allowing a central space, perhaps for catwalks or fashion shows.

14. Aisle Style

Seating arranged in horizontal rows, similar to church layouts with a central aisle. Again, suitable for fashion shows and presentations.

15. X-Style Layout

Tables laid out in the shape of an ‘X’ with chairs on both sides would be a beautiful seating layout for a wedding reception where food or floral arrangements could adorn the centre. Also suitable for networking and small social events, guests can easily interact and mingle. Room layouts help to make the most of available space and can enhance the overall impact of an event. Events by Knight understand the importance of appropriate seating and would be delighted to discuss options for any corporate or celebratory event.
