The De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms is a Grade II listed building with a history dating back to 1775. It has always been an important event venue and was once the home of the original Freemasons’ Tavern. It became a hotel in 1909.
It is a very grand building, both inside and out, that has hosted some of the world’s leading politicians, royalty and celebrities for conferences, weddings and a wide range of events.
During the years following the Grand Connaught Rooms being the lodge, it was extended and rebuilt and was renamed the Connaught Rooms after the first Duke of Connaught. At that time the Duke of Connaught was the Grand Master of the Freemasons.
The building was then bought by Principal Hayley Hotels and Conference Venues and it had a £7m refurbishment and restoration and was relaunched as the Grand Connaught Rooms as it is today.
