The Royal Lancaster London is a luxurious hotel that was built in the swinging 60s and is proud to remain an independent London hotel that prides itself on an excellent service throughout. The hotel is a fantastic location for all types of event whether it’s a private wedding or party or a corporate meeting or conference.
The hotel was initially called Royal Lancaster and opened its doors in 1967. The name Lancaster came from the town in north west England that has a rich history and is home to the influential House of Lancaster which was the victorious faction during the War of the Roses. Their heritage was later absorbed by the current British monarchy. One of the grand entrances to the Kensington Gardens was named Lancaster Gate to honour Queen Victoria and then starting from the end of the 19th century, the name was used in a nearby area which was formerly known as Upper Hyde Park Gardens.
In 1900, the underground station on the Central Line also became known as Lancaster Gate. Subsequently, the new Royal Lancaster London was born and the hotel crest features a stylised red rose in reference to the House of Lancaster which was of course a red rose.
